During a meeting with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, important topics and proposed solutions regarding the future of disability policies were discussed.
The meeting was attended by Lokman Ayva, President of BEYAZAY; Sabahattin Yıldız, President of the Confederation of Special Education Institutions; and Suna Arslan Köten, President of the BEYAZAY Tokat Branch and President of the Association of Special Education Institutions.
Three key topics focusing on the needs of individuals with disabilities and developing sustainable solutions were presented to Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.
The “Disability 3.0” approach was on the agenda.
The first topic proposed a reassessment of social expenditures within a sustainable program framework and the creation of a new support model based on the needs and developmental potential of individuals with disabilities. The new model aims to encourage stronger participation of individuals with disabilities in development and social life.
A request for sustainable financing for special education and rehabilitation centers.
The second topic of the meeting concerned the sustainability of special education and rehabilitation centers. To strengthen the financial structure of centers serving individuals with disabilities, a plan was proposed that takes into account minimum wage, session costs, and public expenditures. It was stated that a predictable, permanent, and sustainable financing system needs to be developed.
Emphasis on legal consistency in economic practices
The third point raised was the need to re-evaluate economic rights, support, and practices for disabled individuals in line with the principles of the rule of law. The importance of establishing a consistent, systematic, and stable structure in these practices was emphasized.
While full agreement was reached on the fundamental approaches, it was stated that models for implementation should be developed through comprehensive consultations with relevant parties. Thus, the aim was to ensure that the new regulations are as smooth and sustainable as possible.
It was reported that work will continue to build a new era in disability policies, one that prioritizes the individual's needs, encourages their development, and is based on legal guarantees and sustainability, instead of short-term solutions.
