As part of the “Movement to Overcome” campaign run by the Turkish Beyazay Association, a Sports Festival for People with Disabilities was held in Samsun.
The Sports Festival for People with Disabilities was held as part of the “Movement to Overcome” campaign, carried out by the Turkish Beyazay Association under the auspices of the Presidency, with Anadolu Agency as global communications partner.
At the festival held at the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mavi Işıklar Education, Recreation and Rehabilitation Centre, people with and without disabilities did sport together in 15 disciplines including volleyball, basketball, golf, bowling, table tennis and darts. As part of the festival, people with and without disabilities took penalty kicks and swam together.
Explaining that they aim to remove barriers through the brotherhood of sport, the President of the Samsun branch of the Turkish Beyazay Association, Mehmet Akbulut, said: “People with and without disabilities empathise by doing sport together in groups across 15 disciplines. That is exactly the aim of the ‘Movement to Overcome’ campaign. By doing sport together, people with and without disabilities overcome barriers. We want to raise awareness in society about people with disabilities, remove prejudices about them and achieve social integration.”
